8oz/250g Self-raising flour
½ teaspoon baking powder
2oz/50g butter
2 tablespoons sugar
3oz/75g sultanas
¼ pint of milk
milk to glaze
Method
Sift the flour and the baking powder into a bowl.
Rub in the butter until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
Stir in the sugar and fruit add enough milk to mix to a soft dough.
Turn the dough onto a floured surface, knead lightly and roll out to a ¾ inch thickness.
Cut into rounds with cutter and place on a lightly floured baking tray.
Brush with milk and bake in a preheated oven 220 c 425 f or gas mark 7 for approx 10 minutes or until golden.
Cool on a wire rack.
